MAJOR GENERAL (Rtd) AMR DHARMASIRI ndu psc

Maj Gen (Rtd) AMR Dharmasiri ndu psc is an Infantry Officer from Sri Lanka Army who counts 35 years of military service, which includes over 28 years of active combat duties.  Maj Gen (Rtd)AMR Dharmasiri was born in Kegalle (Sabaragamuwa Province) on 29 May 1965.  He enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 06 June 1985 and had his basic training at Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa and at Officers Training School in Pakistan.  On successful completion of training, he was commissioned to Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment as a Second Lieutenant on 25 April 1985.

He is a graduate of Army Command and Staff College (ACSC), Sri Lanka, and   He holds a Diploma in Human Rights from the Institute of Human Rights in Sri Lanka. In addition to above, he has attended numerous professional courses including Defence and Strategic Studies Course at College of Defence Studies in China, Unit Commanders Course at Infantry and Tactics School Quetta Pakistan, Junior Command and Staff Course at School of Infantry & Tactic in Bangladesh, and Young Officers Course, Mhow India and Officers’ Weapon and Junior Officers Leadership Course in Pakistan. 

The Officer has taken part in United Nations Command Force exercise in India conducted by US Army Pacific Command, Joint Operation Workshop conducted by British Armed Forces in Sri Lanka, Human Rights Course Conducted by USA Naval Joint Instructors in Sri Lanka.

The officer has served in command appointments in Infantry starting from Platoon, Company, Battalion, Brigade, Division and up to Security Force Commander.  These commands include Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Commander 593 Infantry Brigade and General Officer Commanding 66 and 22 Infantry Divisions. Finally, he held the prestigious appointment as the Commander Security Force (Wanni). Further, he has served as the Contingent Commander of 12th Battalion of Sri Lankan Contingent in United Nations Mission in Haiti.

During his career, he has served as the Senior Instructor at Infantry Training Centre Minneriya and Chief Instructor at Combat Training School at Ampara. His staff appointments include the Staff Officer II at 51 Infantry Division, Staff Officer I at Directorate of Infantry, General Staff Officer I at 56 Infantry Division, Colonel General Staff at Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Deputy Commandant Defence Services Command and Staff College and Director General Staff at Army Headquarters. He is a recipient of Deshaputhra Padakkama which is awarded for critical injuries suffered in combat and Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal in addition to several campaigns and operational service medals.
