Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) DMPB DASSAAYAKE RSP

Highly experienced Senior Military Officer in the rank of Major General (Retired), served in Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on the lookout for an opportunity to optimally use the skills and expertise gained in his military career in any intricate or challenging field. Possesses an outstanding competency in security management, leadership, human resource management and development, conducting a training programme, project management, risk and crisis management.  Confidently focused task-oriented and eager to produce results under trying conditions. Has completed 34 years of active military service with exemplary Military Discipline and had been employed in higher demand appointments in most parts of the country from the year 1986 till bidding adieu to the service. 

Lieutenant Colonel BandaraDassanayake RSP was born on 26 December 1964. He is a proud product of Christ Church College Matale and St Maries College Kegalle, where he excelled in both academic and sport activities of the school. Further, he was also a member of both the junior and senior cadetting squads of the College.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 07 January 1985 , subsequently he selected to follow the officer cadet Short course 06 and completed his cadet training in Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa. Henceforth, he obtained his Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 16 December 1994 upon the successful completion of his training. After commissioning, he was posted to the 1st Sri Lanka Singha Regiment.
He served in various capacities of command, staff and instructor appointment during his illustrious military career. Being an accomplished infantryman, early in his career Lieutenant Colonel BandaraDassanayake performed effectively as a Platoon Commander, Battalion Adjutant, Officer Commanding Operations and Training Officer as the Second-in-Command (2IC) of the Singha Regiment. And he was the Commanding Officer of the 14th Sri Lanka Singha Regiment.

Further, Lieutenant Colonel BandaraDassanayake has served as the Legal Officer, Staff Officer (1) Regimental Headquarters who is responsible for all administrative and logistic matters of the Regiment. He also performed duties as the Officer Instructor and School Adjutant of Army Training school Maduru – oya and finally staff officer (1) Headquarters 53 Division and was responsible for administration and the welfare of soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel BandaraDassanayake is one of a highly decorated military officer in Sri Lanka Army. For his bravery in the battle, he has been awarded the number of gallantry awards ‘Rana SuraPadakkama’ three times due to his individual act of bravery and distinguished conduct in the face of the enemy during active deployment. Further he has been awarded with ‘Desha PuthraPadakkama’ which is awarded to the officers who are sustaining serious injuries while facing terrorist attacks and on the line of duty. Moreover, he was awarded with ‘VideshaSewaPadakkama’ which is awarded to sanctioned services in territories outside Sri Lanka.

He also awarded with ‘United Nations Medal’ which is an international decoration awarded by the United Nations (UN) to the various world countries members for participation in joint international military and police operations such as peacekeeping, humanitarian efforts, and disaster relief. Apart from that he was awarded with ‘VadamarachiPadakkama’, ‘RiviresaPadakkama’ and ‘North & East humanitarian operations Medals which he has actively participated during various stages of the war in Sri Lanka.

Lieutenant Colonel BandaraDassanayake is a very competent and professional Military Officer. During his military career, the Officer has gained a vast knowledge in Military affairs and other related fields by attending several local and international courses and seminars. He has received overseas training in India and Pakistan.

Lieutenant Colonel BandaraDassanayake (Retd) RSP, who has maintained the highest standards of discipline, counts over 34 years of dedicated, committed, and unblemished service in the Sri Lanka Army. He is married to MrsTherikaKumariKulatunge and blessed with daughter and a son.
